Private Villas Near Ubud

Two staffed, exclusive-use villas in the rice-field country around Ubud — one above the Tegallalang terraces, one over a river gorge in Pejeng.

01 · Why Ubud

Bali’s green heart, without the crowds

Ubud is where Bali’s interior opens up — terraced rice fields, river gorges, thousand-year-old temples and a town that has drawn artists, dancers and yoga teachers for a century. It is also, in the centre, busy. The trick is to stay fifteen minutes out, where the villages are quiet at night and the rice fields start at the garden wall, and to drive in for dinner, the market and the dance performances at the palace.

A private villa gives you what a hotel in town cannot: the whole house and its staff to yourselves, a pool nobody else swims in, breakfast when you wake, and a team who know which temple has a ceremony this week and which warung has the best sate. Our two Ubud villas have hosted families and friends this way for years, and their reviews speak for the staff more than anything we can say.

02 · The Villas

Two villas, fifteen minutes from town

North of Ubud, Villa Tau is a four-bedroom villa in Kenderan, Tegallalang, sleeping up to eight. Its rim-flow pool looks over rice fields on three sides, it has a pool table, a coffee room and a staff of four, and it is the closest of our villas to the Tegallalang terraces and the Mount Batur sunrise trek — about an hour away.

East of Ubud, Villa Sagitta is a six-bedroom villa above a river gorge in Pejeng, sleeping up to twelve, with a private infinity pool, a covered yoga deck over the valley, a staff of six and a UNESCO World Heritage landscape at the gate. Goa Gajah, Gunung Kawi and Tirta Empul are all within twenty-five minutes.

If it is a beach you are after instead, our third villa sits on the seafront ninety minutes east — see where to stay in Candidasa.

04 · Practical

Getting there and getting around

The drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport to either villa usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours, depending on traffic. We offer every guest an airport transfer, and stays of three nights or more include one free pickup or drop-off in a car sized for your group.

Once you are settled in, most guests hire a private driver through the villa for a few hours or a full day rather than drive themselves — it is the easy, unhurried way to see the island. Both villas keep cars and English-speaking drivers on call, and the teams will send you their rates if you would like to plan ahead.

Daily breakfast, your villa staff, daily housekeeping, tea and coffee, bottled water and WiFi are included at both villas; lunches and dinners are ordered from the à la carte menu. Every rate on this site is our direct villa rate in US dollars.

Book direct — pay only our villa rate, with no 15%–20% Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com service fees.

05 · Questions

Staying near Ubud, answered

Which area of Ubud is best to stay in?

For most guests, just outside the centre. Central Ubud is busy and its hotels are close together; fifteen minutes out you are among rice fields and villages, with the town still an easy drive for dinner. Villa Tau sits north of Ubud in Tegallalang, the rice-terrace country, and Villa Sagitta east in Pejeng, where the ancient temples are.

How far are the villas from central Ubud?

Both are about 15 minutes by car — Villa Tau is 6 km north in Kenderan, Tegallalang, and Villa Sagitta 7 km east in Pejeng. A private driver can be arranged through the villa for a few hours or the whole day, which is how most guests get around.

Are the villas private and staffed?

Yes. Each villa is exclusive-use — the whole property, its pool and its staff are yours alone. Daily breakfast, housekeeping, tea and coffee, bottled water and WiFi are included, and lunch and dinner can be ordered from the villa’s à la carte menu.

Can one group book both villas?

Yes. Villa Tau sleeps up to 8 and Villa Sagitta up to 12, so together they host 20 guests a short drive apart — a good arrangement for a wedding party, a milestone birthday or two families travelling together. Send an enquiry with your dates and we will check both.

How do we get to Ubud from the airport?

The drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours depending on traffic. We offer every guest an airport transfer, and stays of three nights or more include one free pickup or drop-off in a car sized for your group.

Is a villa near Ubud a good base for seeing Bali?

It is the best-placed base on the island for the interior — rice terraces, temples, waterfalls, the Kintamani highlands and the Mount Batur sunrise trek are all day trips, and the villa team arranges drivers and guides at a day’s notice. For the beach, our third villa, Villa Cocoa Maya, is on the Candidasa seafront about an hour and a half away.
